Welcome back to SJ Weekender. A few updates:

Without further ado, here’s your roundup of the best things to do around San Jose this weekend—check out a Shrek trivia night, a Japanese garden, and a new Filipino dessert shop.

🌟3 Weekend Events to Attend

  • When: Fri. (8/30), 5-9PM

  • Where: 1590 Berryessa Rd., San Jose, CA 95133

  • Price: Free admission (with $5 parking)

  • Description: Indulge in all things K-pop and anime this Friday night. There’ll be over 45 vendors, K-pop and J-pop dance performances, and food trucks with options like classic Filipino dishes and sushi.

  • When: Fri. (8/30), 7-9PM

  • Where: The Plex (800 Embedded Way, San Jose, CA 95138)

  • Price: Free admission

  • Description: Mix things up a bit after work with some Shrek-tacular fun. Come in your favorite Shrek costume, test your knowledge of the Shrek universe, and win exclusive Shrek-themed goodies.

  • When: Sat. & Sun. (8/31-9/1), 11AM-6PM

  • Where: Gordon Biersch Brewing Company (357 East Taylor Street, San Jose, CA 95112)

  • Price: Free admission (register here)

  • Description: Taste the best flavors from the Central and South America and the Caribbean this weekend. Bring your family and friends for a delicious weekend outing!

  • Where: 21000 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA 95070

  • Price: $12 admission

  • Description: Leave your stress behind as you stroll through this beautiful Japanese garden with koi ponds, waterfalls, historic buildings, and bamboo groves. You can also try out a guided sensory immersion walk at their “forest bathing” event this Saturday.

🍽️ 1 Restaurant to Try

  • Where: 301 Castro St, Mountain View, CA 94041

  • Description: The cutest cafe that doubles as a plant shop. Try their matcha latte ($5) and rose matcha latte ($5.50).* Browse the plants as you wait for your drink, and you might find yourself walking out with a new leafy friend.

  • Where: 4055 Evergreen Village Square, San Jose, CA 95135

  • Description: A Filipino dessert shop with a cute ambiance. Try their upside down halo halo ($9.75), ube milkshake ($8.25), and ube leche flan cupcake ($4.99).*

  • Where: 1477 Berryessa Rd Ste 15, San Jose, CA 95133

  • Description: Think Chipotle, but make it Indian, authentic, and fresh (everything is made from scratch every day!). Try their lamb curry burrito ($12.95), chicken tikka rice bowl ($11.95), and paneer tikka salad bowl ($12.95).*
